The Ekka's Alpaca Fleeces Competition showcases a unique side of Queensland's fibre industry.
There are 2 types of Alpaca – Huacaya and Suri. Huacaya fleece looks more like traditional sheep wool, whereas Suri fleeces are arranged in long, silky ringlets.
There are over 20 variations of fleece colours, but for judging, the alpaca exhibits are shown across eight colour classes, with colour variations assessed at the Judge's discretion.
This competition showcases alpaca fleeces.
The eight classes are judged across a range of attributes including weight, fineness, consistency of length and colour, length of staples, lustre, feel, contamination and skirting.
